What does it mean to sparkle?  It means to show up as your unique self!

There is only one you.  Sometimes our unique self can become lost as we grow older.  Lost in the “have to’s” of adult life.  When we were younger, we dreamt about all of the things we wanted to do and accomplish when we grew up.

Didn’t you feel adults had it easy? They chose how they would spend their day with noone telling them when to get up, what to wear, what time to go to bed, and so on!

Boy, did I have that wrong! In truth, we go out into the world, get a job, begin a career, get married, have a family and somewhere along the way we forget how to sparkle. Our unique self can become lost in our responsibilities.

Which is why I love watching little girls who are just lost in the moment.  Whether they are singing or dancing or simply twirling around, their faces sparkle with the joy of the moment. Thinking about spinning around, you remember those dresses, right?  The ones that flare out as you joyfully spun around!  Or how about the shoes that made sound as you walked on a hard surface.  They immediately became tap shoes!  No.  I never took dance lessons of any kind, but I sure loved to spin around and make tapping sounds!

Is it possible that the well-meaning adults in your life asked you to please stop moving, or at least stop the “racket” you were making by clicking your feet on every hard surface you could find? As an adult, I can understand how some of the commotion of energetic children can be overwhelming.  However, as I look back, I wonder if that’s how little by little we lose some of our sparkle.  Between the constant chatter and endless energy, we can sometimes be “too much”. Or was it only me?

However, now YOU are the adult.  The one who gets to choose how you want to show up.  YOU can sparkle anytime you wish!  AND you get to choose how you will respond to those energetic children in your life.

Today, think back to some of the things that lit you up as a child.  Why not engage in some of those activities?  You may find they still light you up and make you sparkle!  While you’re at it, find a little girl who would enjoy the activity with you!  You may have just discovered how to attract sparkle, joy, love and laughter.
