Are you Trendy or Poppy?
Or a Combination of the two?
Which do you identify with more; Trendy or Poppy? There’s no right or wrong answer, it’s simply a matter of which you feel is more “you”!
For years I felt a disconnect from my true self. I loved my job but never felt I quite fit into the culture. I identify with Poppy! Her outlook on life is uncomplicated – simply sing, dance smile and show love to everyone. All the world is a musical.
My workplace, however, was totally trendy…very fashion-forward and professional. I was raised in a very conservative environment, so being professional came pretty easy. Where I felt disconnected was the trendy, more sophisticated fashion aspect my workplace.
I pose this question because I wonder if you have ever been in a situation where you didn’t feel like you could totally be yourself. Once people have an idea of who they think you are, it can be tough to show a different side of you – especially when you feel like you don’t quite measure up. This feeling of inadequacy comes only from ourselves – “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent” Eleanor Roosevelt.
So why do we do this to ourselves? I’ve never met anyone who “wants” to feel inferior to another person. In my case it was totally my own insecurities and doubts; and I would bet that most of my co-workers had no idea I felt that way. I wasn’t disrespected in any way or made to feel “less than”. I was lucky. That’s not always the case – especially in work environments.
There are skills you can learn to help you overcome those feelings of doubt and insecurity. I have done the work to learn those skills and am able to teach them to you. If you have ever felt inadequate, I’m here to tell you it’s probably in your head. YOU are unique and have gifts that no one else has! The key is learning to believe it! I would be honored to get to know you and put some tools in your toolbox that will guide you to believing in yourself.
